    • Fred Maske I don't think the Epstein situation can be relegated to distraction. He himself bragged about helping create the Clinton Foundation. If he ever donated, hello RICO. He's going to be the tool to bust down the door to every rich person's Foundation (aka tax-free money-laundering operation), and it's amazing how many of them are worth millions and yet paltry sums are ever distributed to charity. I thought it was interesting that the day he was arrested, Kevin Spacey (who visited the island a few times) was questioned by Scotland Yard, and a few days later his court case was dismissed. He may have sung like a canary to save his own hide, as he seemed to hint at in that weird video he posted while drinking tea.

      Just the fact that he even got picked up again shocked me. I thought he was forever going to escape justice with his previous light sentence. So that whole sequence of events gives me hope that something big really is happening.

      These structurally-degraded people want gold-plated toilet seats. They see that shit as real "markers" of accomplishment and success.

Tom Owens, my brother, lives in Sierra Madre and teaches history in Los Angeles at Santee Public High School. He is expecting his third grandchild in November. What do you think of Joe Biden, I asked him. Tom said Biden is the likely nominee. He added that he has not yet studied this in depth, but Biden's positions are about 80% agreeable to him. Tom might prefer Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, but it's early. 

This was a preliminary practice interview for me. I might start a Joe Biden Support Group and call it the Moderate Maniacs. Tom thought that was a good idea. Call the group Moderate, because we are moderate, and call us the Maniacs to indicate a genteel ferocity. I got this idea after I heard Trump's supporters with their chant of Send Her Back. This was a terrible thing to do. I fretted over it. I woke up at 5 a.m. the next morning and fretted some more. I thought where can I go and hide. I will shut off all media outlets and forsake all Internet access. I will find a cabin in the woods and spend my days reading ancient texts. All to avoid Trump........ Nah.

Then that same morning, after losing sleep and fretting, my daughter Eva called me. She lives in Seattle. She is three weeks short of giving birth to what will either be a boy or a girl. She's being coy about that, but we'll give it to her. It's all about you, girl. So I got an update on her super-pregnant status  -- doing fine, she said. Then I told her I was fretting over Trump and looking for a place to hide. She said, Dad, why don't you get active? Boy, that's what daughters can do, get you going. So here I am making the first steps  in my Biden Support Group, and the miracle is that I am not fretting, not angry and not stressed -- but engaged and satisfied. Eva was right about that.

Next I will call Andy Boyer in Columbus, Ohio. Central Standard Time. The Midwest. The Heartland, they call it. It seems more real there. Wonderful people. And the country side in Ohio is pretty too, not dramatic, just pretty, easy on the eyes.

I met Andy in 2004. What I did was hop in my red Toyota Corolla and drive across country to Columbus, Ohio. It was, and still is, the Battle Ground State. I just showed up at John Kerry for President headquarters and said Put Me To Work -- I'm here for the duration. And so Andy and I  battled for the soul of Ohio, working night and day for John Kerry, eating cold pizza and drinking stale coffee. We put up a good fight but in the end we lost. The other guy got more votes. We were defeated. And  I won't kid you, after all that work it really hurt.

That was 15 years ago. I stayed in touch with Andy, but I did no more political campaigning. But now I'm thinking, why don't I do it again? Why don't I jump into this campaign? Maybe I can do something useful and help my country. You know, the country we all live in. Our country. So is this just my whim, or is this what I will be doing for the next 15 months? Only 15 months until November of 2020. I really want to work for a winner this time. Being the good guys in 2004 wasn't good enough. There are some things I would do differently this time. I need to discuss this with Andy. He's pretty smart.

 I had a soul-touching experience in Columbus, Ohio in 2004. Three days before the election, when the cold winds of November began to blow across the Ohio State campus I want to a campaign rally, easily 10,000 people, come to hear Bruce Springsteen give a performance. John Kerry came out and spoke a few words. But it was all about the Boss that night. We were so happy. We could have a rally like that in 2020. We could do that again and we can win this time.

Weather.  July continues to be cool and cloudy. We usually expect good beach weather this time of year but it has been scant. I went for a swim in the ocean yesterday. The water was cold, and the air coming out of the water was cold, but I went in anyway. I just love it.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Hoping to bolster the core message of his 2020 campaign, Donald J. Trump ordered Mike Pence to locate a passage in the Bible where Jesus tells people “to get the hell out of here,” White House sources confirmed on Monday.

According to the sources, Trump summoned Pence to the Oval Office and commanded him to find “somewhere in the Bible” where Jesus “tells people that they don’t belong here and they should beat it.”

Pence, who seemed startled by the request, asked Trump if he meant the time when Jesus expelled money changers from the Temple, but Trump shook his head angrily. “No, not that. I don’t want to piss off Deutsche Bank,” he said. “I want something where Jesus tells the poor and the meek or whatever to go back to the shithole places they came from.”

After a shaken Pence said that he would “see what I can find,” Trump reportedly demanded that the Vice-President also locate a passage where Jesus calls journalists “the lowest form of life.”

In my personal experience with "conservative""Christians," I see a clear pattern of obeying whichever bible verse suits their political bias.
And although "conservative""Christian" politics relies heavily on "chapter and verse," Trumpista "Christians" are way more at home with Thunder Sky God punitiveness in the Old Testament than love, compassion, mercy and forgiveness in the New.
When it comes to the New Testament, "conservative""Christians" don't even make an attempt to intersect with Jesus' own words, much less the broad lineament of Christ-spirit.
These "Christians" impress me as fundamentally frightened people, and in their reflexive "choice" between "flight" or "fight" they choose violence every time. Such violence may be disguised by "putting kids in cages" or "separating families," but there it is - violence as plain as potatoes.

AC: I know numerous Trump supporters and none of them are white supremacists or even racist. I don't care for the man. However, I am frustrated by people generalizing Trump supporters as racist. It is just as bad as any other generalization... Racists will likely be conservatives but that doesn't make conservatives racists.

Alan Archibald: Trump is an unkind and frequently cruel person who devotes himself to political revenge, simultaneously going out of his way to denigrate people of color. 

I do not know the percentage of Trump supporters who fall prey to his mean-spiritedness and relentless efforts to inflame the lesser angels of our nature.

Trump has managed to normalize reference to black people (specifically NFL players) as “sons of bitches,” while lauding thug-dictators who hold democracy in contempt.

Trump’s racism, misogyny and small-minded bigotry merge in his disparagement of four non-white women in the House of Representatives. Devious Donald’s never-ending attempts to trash them rely on false witness and innuendo even more toxic than his routine denigration of women as “pigs” and “dogs.”

The man (to use the term loosely) is not a fit role model for American children, nor for any children. 

To pretend otherwise smacks of the same child abuse that Trump and his agents perpetually perpetrate along the Mexican border, cheered on by "worse than racist" supporters who have fallen through his narcissistic looking glass.

The fact that you fail to recognize Trump’s low-life vility, psycho-spiritual twistedness and off-the-chart derangement are measures of his spellbinding duplicity and deceit.

You have been suckered by an authoritarian just as autocrats  have seduced gullible followers time out of mind.

Note well.

When Trump crashes and burns — as he will in the next few years —even you (like cult followers of cock-strutters before him) will turn on your former idol, aping “the good Germans” who pleaded: “But we didn’t know he was doing all those terrible things!”

In the article (linked above) "the former secretary of defense criticizes unnecessarily forceful leadership, calling attention to an unnamed admiral he worked with many years ago who would tear people down and publicly mock critics, creating fear in a harsh and aggressive manner. "You're going the wrong way. You cannot allow your passion for excellence to destroy your compassion for them as human beings," Mattis told the admiral. "Change your leadership style. Coach and encourage; don't berate, least of all in public."

      The "good Christians" blather about their patriotism but have no regard for compromise nor majority rule.

      And even when a majority legislative decision has been made, it's "off with their heads" if that decision contradicts their supposedly infallible reading of scripture.

      But at the end of the day, the (make-believe) theocrat who concerns me most is His Satanic Majesty.

      To stay in power, I can easily see Demonic Donald making an arrangement with Putin to orchestrate a terror attack inside the United States -- an attack big enough to justify a state of seige and martial law.

      Then, without legislative review, Trump quickly names henchmen-and-flunkies to the numerous posts he has left vacant during his diligent deconstruction of government, and -- with government agencies thus packed... and with Trump already ruling from the top of his autocratic chain of command -- it suddenly looks very hard to get the country back.

      I don't know if American Law has even looked at the issue of martial law and who gets to cancel "the seige command."

      I think that decision would be left to Trump or, upon appeal, to the Supreme Court... which, of course, is the same goddamn thing.

      The good news is that apart from such dirty tricks, any semblance of "fair play" will result in Trump's landslide loss next year.

      Furthermore, Democratic coat tails will be long enough to sweep The Oval Office and both houses of Congress.

      And finally, if RBG doesn't die in the meantime, we've got a shot at restoring at least an approximate semblance of integrity to The Supremes.
