  • KK: Alan.. you will hopefully love truth more than fiction. JFK Jr. swore he'd find his father's killers and bring them to justice if it meant bringing down the whole government.       The fact that I can find no online reference makes me wonder if you are concocting a whole-cloth lie (or perhaps have fallen prey to a whole-cloth lie) in order to support your entirely imaginary position that JFK Junior would reveal himself "alive and well" yesterday, and that he would express his readiness to take on the forces of evil even if it meant "bringing down the whole government."

    • KK: well he didn't return and it's sad to me but it was a theory and I never said it was TRUTH.. only that I believed it was possible and so hopeful to me that he would because I love this country and wanted us to heal. I know if JFK Jr. is alive and willing to risk his own life and all he enjoys of whatever he has found in way of peace and happiness for himself to serve the kind of ungrateful HATEFUL humans who continue to slander and demonstrate so openly their HATE towards anyone who dares to oppose the spoiled rotten brats acting out in this generation ? If I were John and had survived what he did to save his family if it's true he had I would have a very hard time even thinking about returning to a country where his own father had been killed by a party who got away with murder and continues to push murder and legalizing the most perverse imaginable sexually immoral behavior as their main agenda.     • Alan Archibald I have long considered the ancient Greek tale of Philoctetes an essential myth - and, oddly, a myth that is essentially overlooked. (In passing I note that mutual friend Ron Firman brought Philoctetes to my attention in the late '70s.)

      Philoctetes was a sailor/warrior who, returning from The Trojan War, was bitten by a poisonous snake during a provisioning stop. 

      The resulting wound would not heal and gave off such a repulsive stench that his mates marooned him on the island of Lemnos.

      From that moment, Philoctetes' ship could make no progress against unrelenting headwinds.

      Finally, this ceaseless adversity persuaded his former crew members that the gods were punishing them for abandoning their fellow. 

      And so they returned to Lemnos to pluck Philoctetes from his exile. Immediately, "the winds" turned in their favor.

      Notably, Philoctetes was the single mythological "subject" most frequently "treated" by ancient Greek tragedians.

  • KK Trump isn't only enjoying golf.. though you most likely never posted anything about the many times Obama was out playing golf while president.. he's there working exactly where he was sent by us to be protecting, defending and acting in the role of president .. Jimmy Carter is no longer president.. It's good he's building Habitat for Humanity I would have loved to have seen him defend and stand with Habitat's founders Millard and Linda Fuller instead of choosing to listen to false accusation against them.

    "Orders of magnitude" (and rigorous number-crunching) are critically important to the determination and contextualization of truth and -- to date -- Trump has played golf twice as often as Obama over the same time-lapse of their presidencies. (And yes, I think Obama played golf too often.) 

    Furthermore, the actual frequency of Trump's golf-playing is almost certainly higher than it appears because the White House often refuses to confirm (or subsequently chronicle) Devious Donald's activities.

    Formerly, friend Georgie C. -- a crimson-red right-winger -- forwarded all his conservative "mass emails" to me.

    For years I would "tease out the truth" in one stupid allegation after another - stuff like "John F. Kennedy Jr. will return on July 4, 2019" -- and, time after time, Georgie would admit I was factually right and his conservative "informants" were factually wrong. (Under similar circumstances, you simply decline to criticize cogent analysis, and so I confidently predict you will make no coherent reply to this analysis of Trump and Obama's golf habits.)

    But back to Georgie...

    Just before he gave up on "conservative" mass email nonsense, he said to me: "But I like being partially right."

    If you settle for being "partially right" Karen, you will be substantively wrong every time.

But trees are much more than what they are to us, or for us, or in relation to us. They are relational miracles all their own, entangled in complex, symbiotic webs of interbeing, constantly communicating with one another through chemical signals dispatched along the fungal networks that live in their roots — an invisible, astonishing underworld only recently discovered, thanks to the work of Canadian forest ecologist Suzanne Simard.
In this lovely short animation from TED-Ed and animator Avi Ofer, Camille Defrenne— one of Simard’s doctoral students at the University of British Columbia, studying how the interaction and architecture of root systems relate to forest dynamics and climate change — synthesizes the fascinating, almost otherworldly findings of Simard’s lab:

      If you had lived in the 17th century when von Leeuwenhoek discovered the previously invisible world of microbes, it is likely you would have been similarly dismissive. I suspect it is only "the utilitarian in you" that is now profoundly grateful (if only implicitly) that the Dutchman's momentous scientific advance laid the foundation of microbiology, public sanitation and drug development to combat microbial infection.

      It is said of Trump that he is an essentially incurious person.

      A good friend for over 50 years socializes with a medical caregiver who has treated Trump (and his family) for decades.

      This doctor says: "Trump doesn't know anything. And he doesn't want to know anything." 

      Clearly this is an overstatement - but an overstatement that reveals Tedious Trump's essentially boring small-mindedness...

      Here is some antidote for you. It will do you good. And if it doesn't do you good, you may be beyond the reach of benefit.

      The Mysterium Magnum is magnified by curiosity, by science and by factual knowledge whereas stonewall-denial of facts-and-science may do God a disservice by confining him to your limited -- and limiting -- concepts.

      The next time you use an antibiotic, I encourage you to be thankful that Leeuwenhoek was curious, not because he knew that his discovery would lead to a favorable utilitarian outcome but just because he was curious.
