Alan: In my mid-sixties I started singing with a rock and roll band.
Playing with the band (and now a second band in Mexico) has become the most consistent source of happiness in my life.
Today, while thinking about the widespread happiness children, I was suddenly struck by "the obvious" (which, lamentably, is so often overlooked).
In the main, children are happy because "playing" is their "mission" in life.
As Shakespeare said (albeit in a different context): "The play's the thing."
And in the largest sense, play IS the thing.
Central.
Fundamental.
Indispensable.
If you would be happy, find a way to play as often as you can, and for as long as you can.
Notably, playing with a band has given me "something to do, something to love and something to hope for."
