Alan: Scare tactics concerning "socialism" are part of the time-tested "noise machine" strategy that makes the rich richer and (nearly) everyone else poorer.

If, as frequently alleged, modern Europe is a result of socialist governance, let's applaud that continent's resounding success.

If, however, modern Europe is a result of a capitalist system with a progressive tax schedule that enables implementation of "socialized benefits" -- benefits that make societies happier and healthier -- then let's learn from those European nation states and promote economic structures based on capitalism complete with progressive tax policies to finance programs that satisfy human needs relating to health, housing, education, nutrition and recreation.
